MEMBERSHIP IN THE ATHEIST ALLIANCE:
The Atheist Alliance is a democratic organization of independent local atheist groups and individuals. Our primary goals are to establish strong, democratic, atheist societies in every state and to work in coalition with like-minded groups to advance rational thinking. All income goes to public outreach projects and helping our member societies grow in strength and numbers. Our members run the Atheist Alliance. Together, we make all the decisions and do all the work.
The Atheist Alliance sponsors annual conventions, publishes the Secular Nation quarterly magazine and The Freethought Directory, maintains a web site that hosts member societies' web pages free of charge, and has a national distribution network for atheist video tapes on public access TV.

The Atheist Alliance began as a national umbrella organization for local atheist-humanist groups. We have grown and even prospered somewhat, despite our unusual structure.
Unlike any other national organization, we function totally at the grassroots level and fully democratically. Our board of directors consists of representatives chosen by each member society. Each member society, regardless of size, has one vote on the board. All work and all decision-making are done by board members and volunteers from among our member societies. We have NO paid staff, no hierarchy, and no executive level gatekeepers to hinder any action any member wants to bring to the board's attention for discussion.
