Good Without God: What a Billion Nonreligious People Do Believe
by Greg Epstein
Good Without God: What a Billion Nonreligious People Do Believe In Good Without God, Greg Epstein presents another, more balanced and inclusive response: Humanism. With a focus on the positive, he highlights humanity's potential for goodness and the ways in which Humanists lead lives of purpose and compassion. Humanism can offer the sense of community we want and often need in good times and bad, as we celebrate marriages and the birth of our children, and as we care for those who are elderly or sick. In short, Humanism teaches us that we can lead good and moral lives without supernaturalism, without higher powers . . . without God.

The New Atheism: Taking a Stand for Science and Reason
by Victor J. Stenger
The New Atheism: Taking a Stand for Science and Reason In this new book, Victor J. Stenger, whose God: The Failed Hypothesis was on the New York Times bestseller list in 2007, reviews and expands upon the principles of New Atheism and answers many of its critics. He demonstrates in detail that naturalism--the view that all of reality is reducible to matter and nothing else--is sufficient to explain everything we observe in the universe, from the most distant galaxies to the inner workings of the brain that result in the phenomenon of mind.

AAI Condemns Religious Sloganeering at US Capitol Visitor's Center
Written by AAI President
Monday, 29 June 2009

The Atheist Alliance condemns a House resolution to add religious slogans to the US Capitol Visitor’s Center.

House Continuing Resolution 131, passed out of committee last Friday, directs the Architect of the Capitol to prominently display one of the US national mottos (In God We Trust) and the Pledge of Allegiance with the text “one nation under God” in the new $170 million publicly-financed US Capitol visitor’s center.

“Since the McCarthy era, certain religious factions have been using the government to teach Americans to distrust neighbors who do not share certain religious beliefs. This is another part of that campaign,” AAI president Stuart Bechman said.

AAI Applauds the US 10th Circuit Court of Appeals and the ACLU of Oklahoma for reversing a lower court ruling in regards to the constitutionality of a display of religious commandments on government property.

The eight-foot-tall monument, featuring a depiction of what is colloquially referred to as "The Ten Commandments" preferred by conservative Christians, was erected on the front lawn of the local Haskell County, OK courthouse in 2004 after a campaign by a local minister and his supporters.

The monument has been found to be unconstitutional by a unanimous vote of a three-member panel of the US Circuit Court.  This suit was brought by the ACLU of Oklahoma
