Entertaining and Educational Programs

On Friday evening, psychology professor Dr. Joe Morrow performed magic and talked about skepticism.  Unfortunately, I only caught the end of his performance and didn't get his picture.

Following him was the high spirited and very humorous professor of mathematics (and notary public) Dr. Herb Silverman who won a challenge to the South Carolina constitution that prohibited atheists from holding public office.  Also, on Herb's suggestion, the AAI board unanimously passed a resolution to not meet in South Carolina until the confederate flag is removed from the capital.

The Atheists and Agnostics of Wisconsin had the presidential suite and held the post-conference room parties on friday and saturday nights.  Above right are the Badger State cheeseheads:
Jim Dew, Carol Smith, and Richard Russell.

Saturday morning began with Dr. John R. Cole
talking about the National Center for Science Education's battle against creationists.
On the left is a Gary Larson cartoon that explains creationism.

Next was a presentation by doctors Paul Geisert and Mynga Futress who developed the freethought school curriculum "Different Drummers."

After a mid-morning break, John Hill, a long time schoolboard member and leader
talked about how school boards do (and don't) work.

The conference goers were next charmed and wowed by Andrew D. Benson
who encourages atheists to befriend Christians and lead them away from the Bible,
towards reason-based beliefs and ethics.  He has deconverted believers and written
The True Origins of Christianity and the Bible.

After lunch attendees were again wowed by lawyer and
radio talk show host Jon Patrick Michael Murphy (shown above right).
