A Trip to the Capital Building April 24, 2000

The Capital building in downtown Sacramento is flanked by two Greek gods, one for weather and one for commerce.

Sacramento displays a good measure of both!

Carol Smith, Al Collins, and I took the capital tour.
Here is a stain glass of the state seal.
Apparently the state officials in California's
earlier years had an affinity for Athena.
The tour guide suggested that Athena was a
Greek god that no one believes in any more.

At the end of the tour, Carol reminded the
guard of what she'd said and stated that
"we can't prove Athena isn't real!"
"Or Zeus either," said Al.

On the left is the capital dome.
It's like a big eye!

On the right is
George Washington over the California State Senate chambers.  Over him is Athena.

A Trip to the Sacramento Zoo

After meeting up with my first-cousin, Joan, who lives in Sacramento,
the group went to visit the zoo.  Below are some pictures I took there.

Below, on the left is Joan.  In the center are Al and Carol.
On the right Carol checks out an unusual evergreen.
