Meeting of Three International Leaders

Our convention was greatly enhanced by the presence of representatives from Canada and France. Robert Buckman, of Canada, joined us at our board meeting. Christian Eyschen, of the French Freethought Organization, La Libre Pensée, brought a proposal to the board to form an international organization, with them, the Union des Athées (another French group), and possibly the American Atheists. Take a look at the Visit Our Board Meeting section to learn more about it.

The Three French Leaders

From the left, Christian Eyschen, Philippe Besson, and Claude Singer.
These are three of the most charming people you could hope to meet—and that doesn't even touch on how dynamic they are. Did you know that their organization, La Libre Pensée, was founded in 1847? They have a grand history, and if you have any familiarity with the French language, you would enjoy visiting their website, Fédération Nationale de la Libre Pensée.

Memorial Dedicated to Women Freethinkers

The French and Minnesota groups didn't waste a moment. Steve Petersen led a trip to Lake Hypatia, Alabama, for five La Libre Pensée members and five Minnesota Atheists. One of the sites they visited was this memorial to women freethinkers. The plaque reads, "This star is dedicated to ALL women freethinkers of the 20th century. Women's History Month, March 1999".
