Hello everyone A couple of months into the new year and AAI is as busy as ever! Welcome to The Israeli Atheist Organisation and Freethought Lebanon, which recently joined AAI as organisation members. It's fantastic to have atheist groups active in the Middle East and we encourage people in Israel and Lebanon to support their important work. Welcome also to the new individual members and supporters who have joined AAI. Atheist Alliance International is supporting PhD research at the University of Nevada, Reno into people's experiences as an atheist, including involvement (if any) with secular organisations and perceptions of discrimination and prejudice (if any) against themselves as an atheist. Please participate in the research - the more people participate the more useful the results will be! Participation in the survey is voluntary and anonymous. Responses will be combined with others, and no personally identifying information will be recorded. Honest and complete answers are crucial to making sure survey results accurately represent the experiences of atheists. The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and will remain open until 27 March 2013. To participate in the survey, or to learn more about this study, please click this link. In January AAI published its first solo edition of Secular World magazine. If you have not yet checked it out, please do! If you are an AAI member you can access the full version online by logging into the members only section of the AAI website. If you are not an AAI member you can see a free extract from the magazine online. We are pleased to welcome Dale Wallace as the new Secular World magazine Editor - Dale will be publishing the next edition of the magazine shortly, and we hope you like it! Also, make sure you tune in to the Secular World podcast to hear Jake Farr-Wharton and Han Hills discussing the world of atheist and secular issues and interviewing interesting people - recent guests include Roselynne Martinez from the Philippine Atheists and Agnostics Society, Indian atheist writer Rastam Singh and Michael Nugent from Atheist Ireland. Atheist Census now has over 180,000 entries! AAI launched Atheist Census in December (and re-launched it after a DoS
(denial of service) attack took the site offline shortly after launch) -
since that time the numbers have steadily grown. This is a long term
project, so please continue to periodically link to Atheist Census on
Facebook, tweet about it
(#atheistcensus) and/or mention it in your blog - everything that
encourages people to be counted is appreciated!
AAI is currently working on presenting Atheist Census in languages other than English to expand its reach - if you would like to volunteer to translate the home page please email

....also on
the topic of reaching out to non-English speakers, a big thank you to
all the volunteers who have translated key pages of the AAI website.
There are now sets of the "About", "Organisation Membership" and "AAI
Foundation" pages in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese (simplified and traditional), German, Portuguese, Croatian, Greek, Persian, Turkish and Slovak - with other languages in progess. If you can add to the collection, please get in touch!
Congratulations to Sean McGuire, who blogs at (the increasingly inaccurately named) mysecretatheistblog - h
Finally, would you like to get more involved? AAI is always looking for volunteers to help out with projects - at the moment we are particularly seeking assistance with an archiving project and to add people to AAI's PR team.
