Orphaned By Outdated, Religious Attitudes Towards HIV, These Kids Need Your Help

Amuli Ayub

Believers who say that atheists cannot have morality have clearly never met Bwambale Robert. Robert is as selfless as they come. Being an atheist in Uganda isn’t comfortable, to begin with, considering the country is 99% religious. Add to that, though, the fact that Robert has taken responsibility for the education of over 650 students at a humanist school that he started, and you can see why I call him selfless.

Just take one glance at his Facebook profile, and it will show you how committed to these kids Robert is.

Although the goals of the Kasese Humanist School center around education, Robert has also recognized the need to house the students. Orphaned by HIV/Aids, affected by crime, poverty and child labour, many of them have nowhere else to turn. Robert not only teaches these kids, but he boards them, as well.

Today, I want to introduce you to some of these kids.

It’s important to note that with 651 students in attendance at the Kasese Humanist School, we cannot highlight all of them. We have chosen the students who have not yet had their tuition sponsored and who have the highest need. If you would like to donate to the school to benefit some of the kids not listed here, you can use the following buttons:

$5 will buy the classroom a new Textbook
